With five star we get a local pick up point Derry club, 1 night stay at Holiday Inn Arras France,then 3 nights in Novatel Ypres; both 4 star hotels with good accommodation and food.The driver (Gary) is very informative and knowledgeable and knows the Trip well having done it for the last 5/6 years. Channel crossing via Dover port and the chance to stop off at any war grave site that we wish to place in the itinery. The driver takes the Somme club each year from the Derry club.

Thursday 3rd June

1. Leave Derry club no later than 07:00hrs for Dover ferry port

2. Arrive Dover ferry port approx 14:00hrs or earlier for early passage.

3. Arrive Calais France 15:45hrs.

4. Arrive Arras France 17:00hrs, book into hotel, free time get to know area.

 

Friday 4th June

1.Leave hotel after breakfast at 08:00hrs

2. Travel to Friobourg War Graves Cem Arras 09:30hrs

3.1030hrs Leave cem for Albert visit Somme museum arriving at 11:15hrs

4. 12:30hrs Leave Albert for dinner (poss. Tomie's bar Albert Rd/Cambria Rd)

5. 13:45 Leave Tommie's for thepravil Memorial arriving 14:15hrs

6. 15:30hrs Leave Thepravil Memorial for Maricourt Cem ( Liverpool Pals Mem)

7. Arrive Mariourt Cem 16:00hrs

8. Leave Maricourt Cem 17:00hrs for Belgium and Ypres

9. Arrive Ypres no later than 15:45hrs due to parade at gate

 

If anyone should like to visit a cemetery which contains a member of family this can be put into the itinerary but all others will be shuffled around to make room for this.

 

Saturday 5th June

Day of to look around Ypres and visits sites in the general area of time, also time for anyone to do shopping and have a break from traveling.

1. All meet in foyer of hotel for 19:15hrs for Menin gate parade

2. 19:30hrs Menin gate for last post

3. 20:00hrs Last Post parade an laying of Poppies to fallen Kingo's

4. 20:30hrs Parade Finishes, break up and evening meal

5. Meet up for drinks

Dress for this should be Blazer/Slacks, Shirt, Tie,Medals,Berets

 

Sunday 6th June

Two things could take place we could either visit D Day landings area in Dunkerque or/and visit Tyne Cot Cem and Chavasse memorial at Brondhoek Cem and German Cem.

(Possible Itinerary)

1. Leave hotel 10:00hrs for D Day landings sites

2. Visit other sites whilst in area

3. Leave area 13:00hrs after lunch

4. 14:15hrs Arrive Tyne Cot Cem

5. Leave Tyne Cot Cem 15:45hrs

6. Arrive German Army war graves 16:15hrs

7. Leave area for Ypres 17:15hrs

 

Monday 7th June

1. Breakfast 08:00hrs

2. Leave hotel between 09:00 and 09:30hrs due to parking

3. Arrive Calais 11:30hrs ( Collect duty free goods)

4.Leave France for Dover 12:30 to 14:00hrs ferry

5. Arrive UK 15:30hrs

6. Arrive Derry Club Approx 19:00hrs

 

All times through out trip will be approximate except for the arrival at Menin gate as the road is closed off to the town a half hour before parade and there is no other way of getting into town also all the streets are closed off. On Sundays after the parade all the pubs close so if we want to meet we will have to find somewhere to meet before hand.

As I have said all times are flexible as some members of the trip might have family members they wish to visit or a grave stone they wish to see, Like my wife and her brothers who would possibly Arres Cem to pay there respects to there Grandfather.
